NBA video games have come a long way, baby. Today, you can design everything from the shoes a player will wear, to the baby momma he will hook up with.<\/h1>\n

I don\u2019t have a PlayStation 3 or an Xbox. But don\u2019t feel bad for me\u00a0homeboy, because I\u2019ve got an original\u00a0NES\u00a0and a Sega Genesis hooked up\u00a0right now<\/i>\u00a0to a 15 inch TV (with a tube) sitting on a chair in my bedroom and I am LOVING IT. These games have gotten better with age.<\/p>\n

Then again, I grew up in a grimy era, playing\u00a0Double Dribble<\/i>, keeping stats by hand, playing tournaments with friends when \u201cTournament Mode\u201d hadn\u2019t even been invented yet, SUNNNN!<\/p>\n

Remember when Michael Jordan couldn\u2019t be \u201cMichael Jordan\u201d in some games due to a licensing agreement issue? So you\u2019d end up with a player named \u201cBulls Guard\u201d with all his physical attributes (like\u00a0\u201cQB\u00a0Eagles\u201d in\u00a0Tecmo\u00a0Super Bowl) but it still wasn\u2019t\u00a0MJ. And neither was Pete Myers.<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0NBA Live<\/i>\u00a0series changed the entire \u201cgame\u201d so to speak because it was the best on all fronts the minute it dropped. But prior to\u00a0NBA Live<\/i>, what was the best? Here are the first five I can remember because I own them:<\/p>\n

Bulls vs. Blazers and the NBA Playoffs<\/b><\/h2>\n

This\u2026.game\u2026..is\u2026.so\u2026.slow. But we loved it anyway, just like your mom. For graphics and gameplay, it did what NBA\u00a0Tecmo\u00a0Basketball did for franchise mode. This was actually the third game in the series (preceded by\u00a0Lakers\u00a0vs. Celtics and Bulls vs.\u00a0Lakers), but was the best because it was the height of the series.<\/p>\n

There is some discussion about whether or not this game was the basis for the ensuing NBA Live series. I laughed so hard when I started a \u201cSeason\u201d (which is actually just the playoffs) and it asked me for a password – when was the last time you had to enter a password? And it was always alphanumeric code, something you could never just remember.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
