Favre vs. Rodgers – who needs “Brett Favor?”<\/h1>\n

Is it finally OK to say what everyone is thinking; that losing Brett Favre was not as impactful for the Packers or the Jets as initially made out to be?<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s just compare the raw data of 2009 as it stands, independent of any emotional response:<\/p>\n

Favre vs. Rodgers isn’t even close; Rodgers is obviously the winner in any statistical comparison aside from Completion Percentage and even there were talking about less than 4%.<\/h2>\n

While Favre\u2019s INT to TD ratio is almost 1 to 1, Rodgers is one TD shy of 2 to 1 and he\u2019s thrown 25 more passes.<\/p>\n

Favre\u2019s six TD game versus the Cardinals is the only reason Jets fans aren\u2019t calling for his head because it skews the reality of his performance; he has thrown six TD in his last eight games combined!<\/p>\n

For as fed up as Rodgers must be of hearing about Favre the only person\u00a0who could be more annoyed is Chargers QB Phillip Rivers.<\/p>\n

You know, that\u00a0one guy who leads the entire NFL in passing TD while maintaining a\u00a0nearly 3 to 1 TD to INT ratio?<\/p>\n

But to hell with the facts, the \u201cGunslinger\u201d\u00a0plays in the biggest media market in the county so it\u2019s no surprise he won\u00a0the ultimate popularity contest, the Pro Bowl, and was elected despite\u00a0leading the entire NFL in interceptions.<\/p>\n

Now, I hear all you Favre apologists screaming, \u201cBut Paul, the Jets are 9-6 and the Rodgers led Packers are 5-10. That\u2019s proof right there you idiot!\u201d<\/h2>\n

I\u2019d almost believe you if the Jets hadn\u2019t revamped their entire roster via free agency in the offseason by signing possibly the best guard in the NFL Alan Faneca.<\/p>\n

Or perennial all Pro FB Tony Richardson, or LB Calvin Pace<\/a> or DT Kris Jenkins or had a top five draft pick (LB Vernon Gholston).<\/p>\n

As far as the Packers losing record, Rodgers can\u2019t play defense in\u00a0addition to his duties behind center.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve lost their last four games by a\u00a0total of 14 points, all due to the defense\u2019s inability to close out games.<\/p>\n

Excluding their 51-29 drubbing at the hands of the Saints, they\u2019ve lost their\u00a0last six games by a total of 18 points, losing all six in the fourth quarter.\u00a0That isn\u2019t Aaron Rodgers fault.<\/p>\n

Finally, just to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt how ridiculous it is that\u00a0Favre made the Pro Bowl and that Rodgers has had the better year, let\u2019s\u00a0look at the numbers of Chad Pennington, the supposed \u201cNoodle armed\u201d\u00a0QB he replaced.<\/p>\n

Yes, I know efficiency isn\u2019t sexy but was the size if Brett\u2019s \u201cBig Arm\u201d worth\u00a0it?<\/p>\n

Say what you will about arm strength, but Pennington is smart enough\u00a0to not throw the ball into double and triple coverage the way Favre does.<\/p>\n

Also, who is Pennington throwing to? Derek Hagan? Greg Camarillo?\u00a0Anthony Fasano? Seriously?<\/p>\n

But alas, the stars have aligned in the most Shakespearian of ways with\u00a0the \u201cGunslinger\u201d taking on \u201cNoodle Arm\u201d this weekend with a playoff birth\u00a0on the line. Ah, the high drama of the NFL.<\/p>\n

Vindication is near and if Pennington and the Dolphins emerge victorious,\u00a0the doubters of both Pennington and Aaron Rodgers will be silenced for at\u00a0least the rest of 2008.<\/p>\n

Then we can all look forward to a solid four months\u00a0of \u201cWill He\/Won\u2019t He\u201d Favre talk just like the last three years. Sweet.<\/p>\n
